Friday 21st June – Devon Bands Day

Headliner - Revelation Roots; 10-11pm

‘Energetic 11-piece reggae and ska band from Devon’

Revelation Roots is a collective of reggae musicians from across the South West of England, showcasing the talents of earlier trailblazers in the local reggae scene. The band has played alongside heavyweights such as Zion Train, Aswad, The Beat and Toots & the Maytals, as well as recent festival appearances at Boardmasters, Beautiful Days and Tropical Pressure.

Combining classic analogue instrumentation in respect to the music’s roots, but with their own unique experiences, the band use their music to voice their frustration at the current world-state.

Datura Roots Collective; 9-10pm

‘Blistering roots-fusion, delivered with toe-tapping fervour’

Inspired from an eclectic blend of roots reggae and dub, smoky blues & Jazz and then twisted up with hip-hop and EDM. The Datura Roots Collective are hard to pin down, yet manage to retain an identifiable and accessible sound all of their own.

Their unique blend of styles and high-octane live show has seen them successfully rock stages at some of UK’s major festivals supporting several heavyweight major artists including: Dubioza Kolektiv, Electric Swing Circus,  Donn Letts & The Undercover Hippy.

The Upper Hand; 8-9pm

‘Infectious indie rock from Devon with soulful vocals’

Since debuting in August 2022, indie rock band The Upper Hand has been making waves in the Devon music scene. Based in Torquay, Tiverton, Ottery St Mary and Exeter, this four-piece band  are currently working on their debut EP.

Despite being a relatively new band, they won a Battle of the Bands contest in East Devon in July 2023. More recently, they won “Best Newcomer” at the 2024 MIDI TV Devon Music Awards, having been shortlisted from hundreds of acts.

Tempus; 7-8pm

‘New funk disco rock fusion from Dartmoor’

Tempus are an exciting new band, with a sound that balances a relentless groove with funk, rock and pop. All members are accomplished musicians, having performed individually in multiple events across the country and each have the highest qualifications in their instrument.

Since formation they have developed quickly, signing a management deal and playing in many local venues in the South Devon area. They have a particular love of obscure time signatures and catchy rhythms which will guarantee to get you up and moving!

Leonard & The Zombies; 6-7pm

‘Female-fronted, punk rock, riot grrrl band from Totnes’

Leonard & the Zombies are a 4-piece female-fronted, punk rock, riot grrl band from Totnes. If you like Hole, Nirvana, Bikini Kill, or the Breeders, you’ll love Leonard & The Zombies!

Since forming in 2020 around a school music project, this group of best friends have played Sea Change Festival, Exeter Street Arts Festival & Boardmasters 2023, supported Gaye Bykers on Acid, Mother Vulture, the Kabins and others. They also won the 2023 Jamming Station’s Battle of the Bands at the Totnes Barrel House. Their debut EP came out in February 2024.

The Vive; 5-6pm

‘Blistering indie rock from South Devon’

Based in Torbay and originally formed in 2021, The Vive are setting their sights on developing locally to build their fanbase. After performing covers of classic tracks by the likes of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and Stone Roses, the band soon caught the eyes and ears of other local groups.

Tracks including ‘You are the Light’ and ‘Too Good to be True’ opened doors and secured them a headline show at the famous Barrel House in Totnes and a place on the bill at the coveted South Hams festival ‘Sea Change’ which attracts numerous key players of the South West music scene. 

Obvious Reasons; 4-5pm

‘Powerful indie rock from Exeter and East Devon’

Obvious Reasons is a 4-piece hard indie rock band from the South West of the UK, based mostly around Exeter. They have headlined Move Live, brought large crowds to Exeter Cavern and supported Scouting For Girls at Festival on the Hills.

Their heavy riffs and strong beats knock rock out of the park. Their song ‘Blood on my Alibi‘ has just released on all streaming platforms and is a great example of their sound, which has been compared to the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, Muse and Royal Blood.
